Compounded Bioidentical Hormones

Concerned About Hair Loss?Your body produces more than sixty different hormones and, without them, you couldn't live. Hormones are chemical messengers that circulate in your bloodstream and orchestrate the continuous activity in the cells and organs in your body.

Sex hormones such as estrogens, progesterone, and testosterone play important roles in controlling sex drive, regulating the menstrual cycle, and allowing for pregnancy and birth. Sex hormones are also potent "neurosteroids" that help maintain the central and nervous system tissue.

The Concept of One Health
Written by Carol Petersen, RPh, CNP- Women's International Pharmacy
Propecia: Wonder Drug? Or Dangerous Trade-off?

The idea of a "One Health" organization started with the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). In 2006, they created a multidisciplinary task force of representatives from different health professions to explore the possibility of working together on solutions and treatments.

The resulting One Health Initiative promotes active collaboration among professionals caring for animals and professionals caring for humans. Their vision statement says that they are "dedicated to improving the lives of all species—human and animal—through the integration of human medicine, veterinary medicine and environmental science."

New Compounded Drop Delivery System Now Available
Written by Kathy Lynch, PharmD - Women's International Pharmacy

Women's International Pharmacy takes pride in listening to our customers, as your concerns are our concerns. A number of patrons have expressed the desire to use a press-in adapter/syringe delivery system for their drops. We are proud to announce we now have this delivery system available for drop prescriptions.

Previously, most of our drop formulations were prescribed in milligram (mg) per drop concentrations. The drops were then measured by a dropper that delivered a "rain size" drop of hormone powder suspended in olive oil. With the new delivery system, prescriptions will be written in mg per 0.1 milliliter (ml) concentrations, in which 0.1 ml contains approximately 3 drops of olive oil mixed with hormone powder.

new dropper

The press-in adaptor fits into the top of a bottle and a syringe fits into the adaptor. Using the syringe, patients can measure their dose in volume increments of 0.1 ml to 1 ml, depending on how the prescription is written. This improved delivery system allows for more accurate dosing with less waste.

Please feel free to call and speak to a pharmacist with questions you might have regarding this new press-in adapter delivery system. Our pharmacists are happy to help with the necessary conversion calculations. Or, practitioners may continue to prescribe in mg per drop concentrations as before, if they prefer. Their patients will continue to receive drops with our standard dropper measuring device.

Sincerely,
